Be prepared, you might spend all
day discovering and
exploring lava tubes and cave entrances in the cairn-laden
trails in El Malpais National Monument's Bandara Lava Flow.
The Zuni-Acoma Trail is one of many
ancient routes that connects the pueblos of Zuni and Acoma and has
witnessed over 1000 years of human travel and use. Many of the rock
cairns and lava bridges built by the Ancestral Puebloans are still used to
hike the route today. The linked brochure tells all about Zuni-Acoma Trail
and how you can hike it.
Enjoy the excitement and adventure of
"Treasure" Hunting (& hiding) in the Zuni Mountains - Geocaching: is a
worldwide game of hiding and seeking treasure. A geocacher hides a geocache "Treasure" anywhere in the world, pinpoints its location using
GPS technology and then shares the geocache’s existence and location online
at www.geocaching.com .
Then anyone with a GPS unit can then try to locate the geocache.
Almost never will you
see a dinky little parade marching down lonely Highway 53 out in the
middle of the desert, with the marchers waving 5 huge red & white Polish
flags in the wind, the women dressed as happy Polish peasant maidens,
and everyone smiling and waving profusely at the occasional bewildered
motorist driving by (thinking what the hell was that?)
